Agartala, September 10, 2019: Apathetic attitude of the erstwhile Left Front Government affected the Agricultural sector – production of crop and productivity were affected resulting failure in attaining self-sufficiency in the sector. Moreover, the Agriculture department didn’t procure fertilizers as per requirement that virtually had an adverse effect in production and productivity of corps during the Left regime– from 2013-14 to 2017-18. According to the report of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), the Agriculture didn’t even prepare the long term perspective plan.

“The Agriculture marketing suffered from inadequate infrastructures, poor revenue generation and limited application of Board Fund, passive attitude of Market Board and Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) and administrative delay towards implementation of major reforms under APMC Act, 2003 and e-NAM (National Agricultural Market),” the CAG report stated.
The State could not attain self-sufficiency in meeting the requirement of population of the state as the department failed to increase the production and productivity of the crops. These were the major irregularities observed in the performance audit of Agriculture department for the period – from 2013-14 to 2017-18.
