Banks to remain closed today and ATMs till tomorrow

ProMASS, Nov 09, 2016: The Reserve Bank of India, RBI has said that as soon as the banks open it will issue new series of bank notes for the 500 and 2,000 rupee denomination with improved features and newer sizes.

Principal Adviser of RBI Ms. Alpana Killawala told All India Radio today that Banks will remain closed for public today and ATMs will also not function today and tomorrow as RBI has to stock banks and ATM machines with lower denomination notes. An official from the stock exchange said that stock markets will remain open and all risk management systems and surveillance measures have been beefed up to tackle any extreme volatility in the wake of de-monetisation of 500 and 1000 rupee currency notes.

Meanwhile, the RBI has also started a helpline number for the citizens who may face any difficulties. Citizens can reach out to the RBI on 022-22602201 and 022-22602944 starting today for any doubts and clarifications.
