September 22, 2017: In the wake of violence in various parts of West and Khowai districts in Tripura since September 19, State BJP president Biplab Deb wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh detailing about the prevailing situation. In the letter Deb demanded Centre’s intervention and CBI probe into the murder of reporter Shantanu Bhowmik.
Detailing about the clashes between GMP and IPFT supporters at various places, he said, law and order situation is getting aggravated day by day and demanded central intervention as well as urged to send a high power of the Home Ministry to the State to explore ways to save the people from violence.
Citing failures of the Government in cracking murder cases of several prominent persons, Deb demanded that “CBI should be entrusted with investigation of the murder of Shantanu Bhowmik”. He also mentioned about similar demand raised by some of the journalists’ organizations.
In the letter Deb also mentioned about CPIM’s ploy to project BJP as anti-Bengali and reap electoral benefits. Unequivocally, he stated about BJP’s stance denouncing prevailing violence and hatred.
