Agartala, May 17, 2019: Hundreds of families in several parts of Agartala – the Capital city of Tripura – are reeling under serious crisis of drinking water for last three days due to power faults caused by the heavy rains and thunder storm on Wednesday.
The storm largely affected the electric connectivity as strong squall uprooted giant trees electric poles and electric wires were snapped in different parts of the city—mainly the Southern part. Moreover, adding salt to wounds, disruption in electric supply affected water supply services.
Agitated people held demonstrations and staged road blockade in, at least, two spots demanding immediate restoration of electric and water supply services.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb reviewed and monitored the emerging situation and asked the officials for resuming normal services by tomorrow. Accordingly administration and concerned departments also assured people that 80 per cent restoration works had been completed – and normalcy will be restored by tomorrow.
