October 29, 2018: The Supreme Court on Monday fixed the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute cases for the first week of January.
Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, heading a three-judge bench, said an appropriate bench will decide the date in January, adding that they don’t know which bench will hear the matter.
Besides Chief Justice, the SC bench also comprised Justices SK Kaul land KM Joseph.
Earlier, Tushar Mehta, additional solicitor general, appearing on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government in the title suit, asked the court to take up the case after the Diwali break.
On 27th of last month, another apex court bench, headed by the then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra had refused to send to a larger bench the 1994 observation that a mosque is not an integral part of Islam. (AIR News)
