Agartala, January 14, 2019: Tripura Opposition leader and CPI-M politburo member Manik Sarkar today visited Madhav Bari in West Tripura and condemned. He also urged people to maintain peace and harmony. Reiterating his Party’s demand, Sarkar once again demanded Judicial probe in Madhav Bari firing incidence.

Madhav Bari witnessed violence on January 08 last during a Bandh protesting against Citizenship  (Amendment ) Bill. As trouble broke out, administration imposed Section 144 and urge agitators to disperse. However, as situation continued to tensed Police had to fire after lathi charge, tear gas firing and water canon proved futile in dispering agitators. In the firing, six persons were injured.

Condemning police firing and in support of 4-point demand including Judicial inquiry by a sitting Judge of Tripura High Court, tribal based political parties observed a 12-hour strike in ADV area on Saturday last – the strike was total and passed off almost peacefully.

After visiting Madhav Bari today,  CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar alleged, situation on January 08 did not require Police firing to quell the tension.

He also commented on BJP’s claim that an ex-MLA of the area ( Manik De of CPI-M was the MLA of the area before he was defeayed by BJP in last Assembly Polls) held a secret meeting  before trouble broke out. Sarkar challenged BJP’s claim. He also demaned judicial inquiry into firing incidence.
