October 27, 2018: One sub-Inspector of Tripura Police was arrested last night for alleged connection with contraband item traders. Sources said, Police arrested SI of Bagma Police outpost in Gomati District, Bimal Debbarma last night. It is also learnt, Police raided his residence in Agartala.
SDPO of Udaipur confirmed the arrest but did not share any other details saying that Police had started investigation.
Local sources, however, alleged, SI Bimal Debbarma was in touch with narcotics dealers. With Biplab Deb led Government determined to curb the addiction menace in the State, Police administration seized huge quantity of ganja, Yaba tablets and other contra band items during last seven months. However, king pins and brains behind the narcotics trade remained elusive.
After recent meetings with top brass of the State Police, Chief Minister Biplab Deb asked the Police to take action against the persons behind the trade. Accordingly, Police geared up action and one notorious ganja seller was arrested in Dharmanagar in North district just before Puja. Several other ganja dealers and traders were arrested in Sonamura sub-division under Sepahijala district.
