Tripura: Violence hits Gandachhera, once again

Agartala, July 02, 2019: In Tripura, strained relation between BJP and its ally IPFT, once again, exposed as violence erupted today in Gandachhera under Dhalai district triggering panic and dissent among the traders and common people. In the violence, one BJP local leader and a Police Officer were injured. Police had to open fire to disperse mob. 

Sources said, Gandacherra is reeling under severe tension following a political violence of IPFT. Ruling BJP’s Gandacherra mandal president Bikash Chakma was injured after being attacked by a group of IPFT miscreants while a police officer- Rakesh Debbarma sustained injuries when an agitating mob attacked him.

Police had deal with highly volatile situation – on the one hand, IPFT goons ran amok and created panic, on the other hand, local people became agitated due to alleged Police inaction.  The police officer had to open blank fire to disperse the agitating mob.

According the reports pouring in from Gandacherra, the IPFT today staged a protest march and attacked a local BJP-run auto syndicate. The violent IPFT miscreants also ransacked multiple vehicles near the spot.

Local BJP activists alleged that the IPFT supporters mostly ‘outsiders’ attacked some local houses at Gachbagan area while they were returning from the rally.

BJP’s Gandacherra mandal president Bikash Chakma was attacked when he was in sitting condition at a shop of Gachbagan. He somehow managed to escape the scene. Locals alleged that the policemen present at the scene had fled away when the IPFT goons ran amok for over 15 minutes creating serious mayhem.

When SI Rakesh Debbarma of Gandacherra police station reached the spot, he was attacked by the agitating local villagers. He then blank fired to control the situation.

Both the injured persons are now under treatment at Gandacherra sub-divisional hospital. Policemen in adequate numbers were put in place to avoid any further untoward incident.

Meanwhile, protesting against frequent attacks, the members of Gandacherra Merchant Association gheraoed the local police station demanding security against such attacks.
