Civic Body polls in Tripura on Nov 25, counting on Nov 28

Much awaited declaration of civic body polls dates has been made as Tripura State Election Commission has on Friday announced the schedule for civic body polls in Agartala. The polling will take place on November 25 and the counting of votes will be held on November 28.

 

As announced by State Election Commissioner M.L. Dey, the submission of nominations will start on October 27 and it will continue till 3 pm of November 8 next. As many as 5,94,772 voters will exercise their franchise in total 334 constituencies, the State Election Commissioner told the media.  ..

 

Meanwhile, the term of office of the Urban Local Bodies (Municipalities) has expired in normal course on December 18 last year but the general elections for formation of new municipalities couldn't be conducted in due time following Covid pandemic.

 

The State Election Commission has now decided to conduct the polls to civic bodies following improvement in the Covid situation, an official press release said.

 

"There are twenty municipalities including Agartala Municipal Corporation in the state consisting 334 constituencies out of which eight are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, 85 constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 157 constituencies are reserved for women", the release said.

 

While nomination submission will start from October 27 itself they will be scrutinized on November 5. Last date for withdrawal is November 8 upto 3 pm. With the announcement of the polls, the Code of Conduct has come into force. If repoll is required it will be done on November 27.

 

The polls will be conducted in a total of 770 polling stations across the state. Adequate security arrangements will be made for smooth and peaceful conduct of the ensuing civic body polls.

 

The District Magistrates of all eight districts have been appointed as District Municipal Election Officer to coordinate and supervise all works in connection with the conduct of the elections.
