Fish trading siblings attacked: one killed, two injured

A 40-year-old Fish trader was killed and two of his brothers were left critically injured by miscreants. The deceased, Shitan Das and his brothers - Jitan Das (46) and Litan Das (36) – all hail from ITI Para at Jatanbari. Police have detained two persons for interrogation.

According to sources, Shitan Das along with Jitan Das and Litan Das was attacked at Rambhadra Para area under Amarpur sub-division by a group of miscreants on the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday while they were on their way to Mandirghat in Dumbur in two bikes.

The miscreants stopped them at Babu Tila under Rambhadra along the Jatanbari-Dumbur road and launched physical assaults on the fish traders. In the attack, Shitan Das died on spot while Jitan Das and Litan Das managed to run and reach Jatanbari even though they were seriously wounded, sources said. Later Police took the injured persons to Hospital – first to Natunbazar and then to Gomati District Hospital at Udaipur.  

Meantime, the OC of Nutanbazar PS and the SDPO along with the Police rushed to the site. The police dog squad and the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) team were sent to the spot for evidence collection.

During preliminary investigation, Police have detained two persons namely Chayan Kumar Chakma (24) of Rambhadra and Ranjit Tati alias Pandu (31) of Karaichara under Natunbazar PS for interrogation.

In a press release, the Assistant IGP (Law & Order) mentioned “during the initial investigation, so far done, the prima-facie evidences are indicating that the incident took place due to personal enmity. Further investigation is in progress. A team led by Additional SP’s Kanta Jangir IPS and Sudip Paul TPS Gr – 1 is carrying out a thorough investigation.

Veteran Fish trader Nirmal Kanti Das condemned the attack and extended sympathy to bereaved family members. Das demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family members and a government job to a member of the deceased’s family as well as Rs 5 lakh to each of the injured persons.
