There is ample stock of petrol and diesel in Tripura as another goods train laden with petrol and diesel arrived at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) depot in Dharmanagar lessening the ongoing fuel crisis in Tripura. This was confirmed by Pramod Dhar, the state-level coordinator for IOC.
He said the state’s daily requirement averages around 265 kiloliters of petrol, and supplies are being dispatched to the pumps in accordance with demand.
Tripura was grappling with a severe fuel crisis due to disruptions in rail traffic caused by landslides after a landslide on April 26 occurred on the Jatinga-Harang railway line in Assam.
The landslide severely disrupted rail communication. As a result, fuel supplies to Tripura were severely affected, leading to long queues at petrol pumps and widespread inconvenience for the public.
The closure of vital rail lines exacerbated the existing shortage, and the shutdown of key roads further restricted the movement of fuel tankers.
However, situation started to improve after rail connectivity was restored and a fuel carrying POL tanker arrived in Tripura on May 12.
Dhar expressed optimism that the fuel stocks at the pumps would be normalized within the next couple of days. However, the rationing system that was introduced at petrol pumps remains in effect.
Even as fuel arrives in petrol pumps, long queues observed at several petrol pumps in Agartala city on Tuesday. Sources assured things would become normal very soon.
The supply of petrol and diesel is returning to normalcy in other parts of the State.
Sub Divisional Magistrate of Sabroom in South Tripura District, Shivjoyti Dutta said supply at all four petrol pumps in Sabroom sub division has returned to normalcy.
He, however , added that the rationing system was still operational in the subdivision as of today. He said the rationing system may be phased out within the next two days.
