TIPRA Motha releases 1st list of candidates for Assembly Polls 2023

TIPRA Motha has released its first list of candidates for the February 16 Assembly Polls. The list containing names of 20 candidates, signed by party’s president BK Hrangkhawl, was circulated in the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday (Jan 28-29). According to the party source, another list will be released on Sunday.

Brishaketu Debbarma who was the first to quit BJP-IPFT alliance and join TIPRA Motha will contest from Simna. CEM of the TTAADC, Purna Chandra Jamatia will contest from Bagma while his deputy Animesh Debbarma will be in the fray from Asharambari constituency.

As per the list, 46-Surma and 51-Fatikroy are the two SC seats from where Shyamal Sarkar and Bilas Malakar will contest.

Six general seats are ;- 20-Boxanagar, 27-Kalyanpur-Pramodnagar, 37-Hrishyamukh, 42-Amarpur, 52-Chandipur and 58-Panisagar.

12 ST seats are : 1-Simna, 19-Charilam, 26-Asharambari, 29-Krishnapur, 30-Bagma, 36-Santirbazar, 38-Jolaibari, 43-Karbook, 47-Ambassa, 48-Karmachhara, 49-Chawmanu and 59-Pencharthal.

Notably, TIPRA Motha will go alone in the Assembly Polls. After seemingly endless parleys with BJP leaders, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma announced on January 27 that TIPRA Motha would go solo in the upcoming Assembly polls and would soon announce candidate lists.

However, TIPRA Motha, as the speculation was rife, expecting that IPFT would merge with TIPRA Motha. After a day-long wait, this proved to be wrong as IPFT agreed to continue alliance with the BJP. IPFT was allotted five seats and promptly, IPFT announced their candidates – including the name of late NC Debbarma’s daughter - for those five seats.
