Tripura Assembly Polls: 38 CPIM candidates file nominations
Amidst growing discontent and desertion, total 38 CPIM candidates in Tripura submitted nominations for February 16 Assembly Polls in respective Constituencies on Friday (Jan 27).
Among the notable, State CPIM secretary Jitendra Choudhury filed his nomination papers for 40-Sabroom Assembly constituency in South Tripura District today. Another CPIM candidate, Prabhat Tripura submitted nomination from 39-Manu constituency.
Sitting CPIM MLAs - Islam Uddin of 54-Kurti-Kadamtala and Bijita Nath of 55-Bagbasa assembly constituency - also submitted their nominations today. Besides, 57- Jubarajnagar CPIM candidate Shailen Chandra Nath submitted their nominations on Friday.
CPIM will contest in total 43 seats while other Left Front constituents – CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc will field one candidate each. The LF constituents are yet to finalize their candidates and are likely to submit nomination soon. The Left Front supported Independent candidate is also yet to submit his nomination. In some other places – like Majlishpur, Khowai and Asharambari etc - also CPIM candidates did not file nominations today. Party sources said, with January 28-29 are holidays, all the remaining Left Front candidates will submit nominations on the last day of nomination submission – January 30.
Besides, CPIM candidates for two constituencies under Kumarghat sub-division in Unakoti, two constituencies under Teliamura sub-division under Khowai district, Raima Valley (ST) constituency in Gandachhera under Dhalai, four constituencies under Sonamura sub-division in Sepahijala districts and other areas also submitted nominations.
At each place, supporters led by the candidates held rallies and urged people to vote for the CPIM candidates. Even as an alliance was formed between the CPIM and Congress, in most of places, congress supporters reportedly skipped the nomination rallies of the CPIM. Absence of the Congress supporters in the rally raises many an eye brow.
