Drugs worth Rs. 1 cr seized

 

In an anti-drug raid, Tripura Police seized heroin worth around Rs. 1 crore and arrested father-son duo in this connection on Sunday.

 

SDPO Amtali Ashis Dasgupta led the raid at the house of Narayan Sarkar at Balurchar area of Bhattapukur under A.D. Nagar police station in Agartala.

 

During the raid, the police seized around 1 kg of suspected heroin kept in 64 small packets from the house and arrested the house owner along with his son Rakesh Sarkar in this connection, an officer told the media.

 

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb hailed the efforts made by the police team and termed it a ‘big success for ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’.

 

Yuva Morcha leader ends life

 

General secretary of South Tripura district BJP Yuva Morcha and vice chairman of Panchayat Samiti of Satchand RD Block under Sabroom, Rupankar Dey (33) ended his life on Sunday evening.

Dey committed suicide by hanging himself today evening. He hailed from Masterpara at Goachand Nandigram Gram Panchayat under Sabroom PS.

The young, educated and unmarried Yuva leader returned home from Manipur a week ago after campaigning for the Party there.

Local MLA Sankar Roy condoled his death and extended sympathy to the bereaved family members. “The party has lost an honest and energetic leader”, Roy commented.

 

Minor girl eloped, but police tracked, rescued

 

Tripura Police rescued a minor girl along with her paramour from Chennai and handed over them to their guardians.

 

According to sources, a 16-year old girl of Charilam Aralia under Sepahijala District eloped with her paramour Faruk Mia on January 17.

 

Later, the family members of the girl lodged a complaint with Bishalgarh Women Police.

 

Based on the complaint, police swung into action and tracked the phone calls of Faruk – Police located the girl and Faruk in Chennai.

 

Police talked with them and the girl informed the Police that she was not kidnapped, but eloped with Faruk willingly, said OC of Bishalgarh Women PS Shiuli Das.

 

After bringing them to the PS, both the girl and Faruk were handed over to members of their respective families.
