Students again block road in Kailashahar

In yet another instance, students vented anger at the State Education Department on Thursday as students of Kailashahar sub-division assembled and blocked Central Road in Kailashahar. The students were protesting against the Education department’s decision to conduct a Half-yearly examination of Class IX and XI students for 80 marks instead of 40 marks. They were demanding exams to be held for 40 marks only.

Students burnt tyres and had heated exchanges of words with local traders during the roadblock agitation.

Even as Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath clarified the issue through a press conference, agitating students blamed the department and alleged, they were taught in schools and were prepared for the exams with full marks being 40. However, the Minister made an announcement recently that exams, which would be conducted on December 5 next, would be held for 80 marks.

Even as the students withdrew their agitation after talks with the District Education Officer, the students served an ultimatum.

“If the authority does not accept our demand by tonight, we will launch intensified agitation in Kailashahar from Friday”, students said.
