In a significant development, two young individuals, including a woman, were apprehended at the Agartala Railway Station on the night of May 24. The arrest was made following confidential intelligence inputs that led to the discovery of a pistol in their possession.

The two suspects, identified as Priya Debbarma, a 22-year-old resident of Khasiamangal, and Karan Debbarma, a 24-year-old from Mungiakami in the Khowai district in Tripura, were reportedly traveling towards Agartala Railway Station aboard the Jan Satabdi Express. Acting on the secret information, the GRP unit of Agartala railway station detained the duo upon their arrival at the Agartala Station.

A subsequent search by the GRP personnel revealed an American 9mm pistol, two empty magazines, two mobile phones, and a sum of cash in their possession. Following their arrest under the Arms Act, the suspects were produced before the court on Saturday and remanded to police custody for three days.

The Officer-in-Charge of the GRP unit said that the police are currently investigating the source of the pistol and exploring all aspects of the case. During the initial interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they had boarded the train from Dharmanagar and were given the firearm and Rs. 5000 by an individual known as ‘Kamal’.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another recovery of a pistol along with two magazines and eight fresh bullets from the Matinagar area by the joint efforts of Amtali Police and BSF on May 23.
