Tripura Pushes for Agricultural Growth in 147th SLBC meet, Urges Banks to Boost Financial Inclusion

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha chaired the 147th State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting, emphasizing the need to develop agriculture and allied sectors for the state's economic prosperity.

He urged banks to play a more proactive role in making people involved in these sectors self-reliant.

The Chief Minister highlighted existing loan schemes like Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Stand Up India, and MSME, and called for increased loan disbursement in these areas.

He stressed the importance of banks achieving their annual credit plan targets and taking the initiative to set up more ATMs, particularly near sub-divisional and district hospitals.

Moreover, he emphasized the need for banks to address and resolve all complaints received through the CM Helpline efficiently.

Speaking on the agenda, Punjab National Bank Chief Manager Uttam Kumar Mukherjee detailed that banks have set a target of 100% disbursement across all sectors in the annual credit plan for the financial year 2023-24.

He reported that as of March 2024, banks had already disbursed Rs 11,122.65 crore for agriculture, MSME, small and medium industries, and other primary sectors.

The meeting also reviewed progress on various government initiatives. Under the Stand Up India scheme, loans were provided to 30 SC, 22 ST, and 88 women beneficiaries.

Moreover, 2135 houses were sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and 841 individuals received loans worth Rs 4406.45 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Programme in the financial year 2023-24.

Furthermore, 7281 loans were sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor Atmanirbhar Nidhi scheme, and 813 education loans were approved by various banks.

The SLBC meeting also addressed issues related to opening new bank branches and increasing loan accessibility for self-help groups. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen financial inclusion and empower various sections of Tripura's population.
