TSR Fratricide: Tripura CM announces Rs 5 Lakh each for bereaved families; die-in-harness benefits

Pall of gloom descended at entire Udaipur sub-division in Tripura after two jawans of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were shot dead by their colleague on Saturday.

 

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid homage to the deceased and announced that financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh would be provided to the bereaved families each. Besides, family members of the deceased jawans would also get the benefits under the die-in-harness scheme.

 

In an incident of fratricide, Subedar Mark Hasin Jamatia (47) and Naib Subedar Kiran Jamatia (37) were shot by TSR riflemen Sukanta Das (38) at Konaban under Udaipur sub-division on Saturday. While Mark Hasin Jamatia died on the spot, the other, Kiran Jamatia was shifted to Agartala Government Medical College in a serious condition. He succumbed to injuries later on. Sukanta Das was arrested soon after he confessed the crime.

 

Deceased jawans - Mark Hasin Jamatia hailed from Pitra and Kiran Jamatia was a resident of Dhwajanagar in Udaipur sub-division.

 

The incident sent a shockwave in the sub-division as well as other parts of the State. Later, Deb rushed to the houses of the deceased jawans in Udaipur.

 

Paying homage to Mark Hasin Jamatia at the deceased house in Pitra, the Chief Minister assured that the State Government would cooperate to ensure punishment of the accused person. He also condoled the demise of the jawan and extended sympathy to the grief-stricken family members.

 

Deb also visited the residence of Kiran Jamatia at Dhwajanagar and paid homage to the deceased jawan. Deb was accompanied by DGP VS Yadav. Earlier, they were present at 1st-Bn TSR headquarters, Gokulnagar when the two deceased were offered Salami with the last post of the Bugle.
