Yet another Milestone : Successful Open Heart Surgery conducted in GBP Hospital

The doctors of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP hospital achieved another milestone in delivering healthcare.

This time, they successfully performed Open Heart Surgery. It’s an achievement of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology (CTVS and IR) of the state’s prime referral hospital.

Successful-Open-Heart-Surgery-Tripura 46-year-old Madhabi Rani Das, a resident of Udaipur, had visited the OPD of the hospital with breathing problem. After necessary medical examination, the doctors identified a major atrial defect in the patient’s heart.

Finally, a team of doctors led by Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee, in-charge of the CTVS and IR department, performed the critical surgery on Thursday—they took five hours to complete it.

The team included Anaesthesiologist Dr. Surajit Paul, Medical Officer Dr. Abhishek Debbarma, Perfusionist SUjan Sahu, Physician Assistant Sudipta Mandal, Scrub Nurse Jahir Hossain, Arpita Sarkar, Sourav Shil, Mousumi Debnath, OT assistant Ratan Mandal, Jaydip Chakraborty, Amrit Murasingh, Coordinator Abhishek Dutta, Richashree Sarkar, Kisan Roy and others.

According to an official release, the Open Heart Surgery was performed in the hospital for the first time after the formation of the CTVS and IR department. The surgery was done at free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Principal of AGMC- Dr. Manjushri Roy, Medical Superintendent of GB hospital- Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, cardiac surgeon Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee and others held a press conference on Friday and thanked Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union Minister of State- Pratima Bhowmik for their role in introducing the new department.
