Tripura News: 5 Rohingya persons including 2 minors arrested in Kailashahar

Police from Kailashahar police station arrested five Rohingyas, including a minor boy and girl, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in East Tripura Parliamentary constituency which will go to polls on April 26. The arrest of five Rohingyas together has created a sensation in the entire Kailashahar subdivision ahead of the second phase of voting.

According to Kailashahar police station OC Shyamal Kanti Majumdar, the five Rohingyas were identified as Alim Uddin (48), Abdul Sukur (18), Sanuwar Begum (38), Taslima Begum (15), and Md. Rashid (11).

Speaking about the incident, Unakoti District Police Superintendent Kanta Jahangir said the five Rohingyas had crossed the India-Bangladesh border at some, yet to be ascertained, place in Kailashahar and reached the Paiturbazar Motor Stand area to go to another state.

After reaching the motor stand, the five Rohingyas got into a car. However, local people became suspicious and immediately, informed the Kailashahar police station. Accordingly, the police reached the spot and arrested the five Rohingyas to take them to the police station.

Of the five arrested Rohingyas, one is a minor boy of 11 years, another one is a minor girl of 15 years. The police brought the five Rohingyas to the police station and interrogated them for about three to four hours before sending them to the Kailashahar court. The court ordered the minor boy and girl to be sent to the Dharmanagar home and also ordered them to appear in the Court again on May 2.

The Court sent the remaining three adult Rohingyas to the Kailashahar jail and ordered them to appear in court again on May 3.
Kailashahar police sources said the five arrested Rohingyas had fled from the Chittagong refugee camp in Bangladesh and the five arrested Rohingyas were members of the same family.
